FAQs...

As you explore the idea of adding a Labrador to your family, we suggest you check out the information below. We hope to have addressed your most common questions, but please feel free to get in touch if you need more details.

Puppy Contract

Limited vs Full AKC Registration

Unless otherwise agreed upon, all puppies are placed in homes with LIMITED AKC REGISTRATION papers; which means they cannot be bred. Limited registration dogs can participate in all AKC events except conformation dog shows, but they can show in UKC dog shows.

Every now and then we may consider selling on full to approved breeders/clients, but on some litters, we will not offer full to anybody. This is to ensure that our lines stay protected, do not get over used, and do not end up in the hands of irresponsible breeders.  If you are interested in Full Registration, this must be discussed prior to any payments.

Visiting and Picking Out a Puppy

We appreciate your interest in visiting our puppies, but to ensure their health and safety, we cannot allow visitors until the puppies have completed after their six week vaccinations. This measure is crucial in preventing exposure to harmful parasites and diseases.

Puppies have developing immune systems, making them more susceptible to infections from new contacts. Many illnesses can be unknowingly brought in on people's shoes and clothing. For example, the parvo virus can devastate an entire litter within a short time, and it can be picked up from common public areas. We must prioritize the safety of our dogs and your future puppy.

We will be posting regular updates, including photos and videos, on our social media platforms to keep you connected with the puppies! We can also text or email those without social media accounts.

Shipping and Transportation

Puppies can be shipped anywhere in the US, but we encourage you to fly and pick up your puppy if possible. Our local airport in Traverse City is called Cherry Capital Airport (TVC). It is fairly large but usually has layovers in Grand Rapids, Detroit, or Chicago.

Most airlines allow you to travel with a puppy as a “carry on” which is a much less stressful way for your puppy to fly. If you require shipping, there are many ground and air transport options available to puppy buyers. If we are delivering the puppy via a flight nanny, all shipping costs are due at the time of the flight being booked to deliver the puppy. This doesn't include puppy balance, only fees associated with delivering the puppy. These costs are 100% non-refundable.

Spaying and Neutering

Numerous studies suggest that spaying or neutering puppies at an early age can have adverse effects on their health and growth. For this reason, we require that you postpone the procedure until your puppy is at least 18 months old. This method can significantly decrease the chances of cancers affecting the bones, blood vessels, and lymph nodes, allowing for complete development of their bones and joints. Additionally, it may help in preventing hip dysplasia by ensuring that mature reproductive organs are present to support adequate hormone production, which is vital for the development of connective tissues. AKC Spaying and Neutering FAQs

Deposits

We require a $250 "holding fee" to reserve a spot on our waiting list with your choice of sex and color. It is a non-refundable deposit that is applied to your puppy's total. Deposit can be sent through Venmo, PayPal, or Good Dog AFTER your puppy questionnaire has been approved. Your deposit is transferable to future litters, however after 18 months it expires. We will take 6 deposits per litter and then start a floating deposit list where we will add you to a litter as your name comes up on the list. Tripp Labradors has reserved the rights to first pick.

Pricing and Final Payment

Prices vary by litter. Purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder is expensive – having a healthy litter is expensive too. Please take into account the amount of money it takes to have the numerous genetic and physical exams done, the costs of feeding, grooming, training, showing, etc. Once a breeder decides to breed, their female goes through many additional tests and procedures. For us, the certified reproduction veterinarian that assists us is located more than two hours away.

We require final payments the day the puppies go home. Payments must be made in cash. In some circumstances, we may consider the final payment be paid electronically, but this must be discussed prior to the puppy being picked up. No puppy will leave our possession without full payment being received.

Lifetime Support

Call us for any reason, we love talking dog! If you have a question and we don't happen to know the answer, I'm sure we know someone that does. In addition, we will take back any of the dogs that we have bred for any reason. In the event the buyer can no longer assume care for their puppy/dog, the buyer agrees to contact Tripp Labradors to assist in placing the puppy/dog or to arrange return to the breeder. Any Tripp Labrador puppy/dog should never to be surrendered to an animal shelter or sold or given to another party without first notifying us.
